Our Services

  • Kiln firing service rates are:-

*$10 per kg for bisque firing (+GST)

*$13 per kg for glaze firing (+GST)

*All items must be weighed on our scales before firing.

Please fill out the kiln firing form completely when dropping off your pieces. Pieces are to be placed on the labeled (bisque or glaze) shelves nearest the kilns. Take any packaging or containers home with you after dropping your work off as we do not have adequate storage space for additional boxes and wrappings.

Private kiln hire is available for custom firing or faster turnover times. Cost is $50 per firing, plus the weight of the work to be fired.

Completion time can vary considerably, depending on how much work is coming into the studio's kiln firing service.

All kilns must be completely full to fire and can not be fired until they are completely full. Ware is prioritised by how efficiently they fit on each individual kiln shelf. If your work is not complete when you anticipate, it is because there is not enough work to fully fill and fire the kiln.

In other instances, such as bisque firings, work has to be completely bone dry to fire, and firing cannot take place until all of the work is dry enough to fire.

The kiln firing service cannot run on any individual deadlines. Work can only be fired when a kiln has enough ware to be completely full. If you are pressed for time, please consider our private kiln hire.

You will be notified when your work is complete. If you are a studio access member, your work will be placed on the table next to the firing shelves when completed.

All bisque firing is fired to 984C. We can fire to any temperature range for the glaze firing but have recommended to most of our clients to fire at 1220C so that it's faster to fill and subsequently fire the kilns. Firing temperatures other than this must wait until enough work is available at that temperature range to fill a kiln, or the choice can be made to hire a private kiln for faster turnaround times.

We must be provided clay and glaze labels before any new firing can take place.

Payment must proceed all firings. Great care is taken to handle your work, but accidents do sometimes occur. This is inherent in the ceramic process, and firing services are undertaken at a (at your risk) service.

All glaze work must have the glaze removed completely from the bottom and 2mm up the profile of your work.

All small items have a $25 surcharge, plus the weight of the work. No wires or jewellery stilts are permitted.

Firing services have a $10 minimum charge to fire.

*While we do our best to take great care of your work we have set out the following terms for you to take into consideration:

    Terms:

—We accept Stoneware and Earthenware clays.

—It is important that you mark your actual work clearly for easy identification.

    7cm-15cm $2
